Paliurus is a Latin term for spiny, flowering, summer shrubs
and trees which are grown for their foliage and flowers. The shrub is often
grown for its religious association, reputedly being the plant from which
Christ's crown of thorns was made, known as Paliurus stina-christi.
This work is an arrangement for woodwinds, brass and percussion of my electronic
work King of Kings, which was a piece written to underscore a theatrical
production based on the biblical story of The Passion. This arrangement
was begun on June 16, 1997 and completed on February 20, 1998 at the University
of Wisconsin- -Milwaukee. Dedicated to Mr. Paul Ellis.
